This Biscoff hot chocolate is smooth, velvety, and layered with caramelized cookie goodness. Whether you’re curled up on the couch or entertaining guests, this recipe is a guaranteed hit—especially with a splash of bourbon for the adults. Serve it as is or with some of my spiced hot chocolate cookies for a warm and delicious treat.
What is Biscoff?
Biscoff is a brand of cookie butter made from speculoos cookies – spiced, caramelized shortbread cookies originating from Belgium. The spread is sweet, rich, and slightly spiced, making it perfect for desserts, breakfasts, and beverages. If you don’t have Biscoff on hand, any brand of cookie butter will work for this recipe. I personally love the deep, caramel notes that Biscoff brings, but feel free to use your favorite brand!
Ingredients:
For the Hot Chocolate:
- 2 cups chocolate milk
- 2 tbsp Biscoff spread (any brand works)
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1-2 oz bourbon (optional, for adults)
For the Toppings:
- Whipped cream
- Crushed Biscoff cookies
Directions:
- Heat the Milk:
- Pour the chocolate milk into a pot and heat over medium heat. Stir occasionally and avoid bringing it to a boil.
- Add the Flavor:
- Whisk in the cocoa powder and Biscoff spread until the mixture is smooth and the spread fully melts into the milk. This adds that signature caramelized cookie flavor to the hot chocolate.
- Season & Enhance:
- Stir in a pinch of salt and a dash of vanilla extract for depth of flavor. Continue stirring until well combined.
- Optional Bourbon Addition:
- If making this for adults, remove the pot from heat and stir in 1-2 oz of bourbon. This adds a warming, rich flavor to complement the sweet notes.
- Serve & Garnish:
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with a generous swirl of whipped cream. Crumble Biscoff cookies over the top for that irresistible crunch.
- Enjoy Immediately:
- Sit back, relax, and savor each sip of this indulgent, cozy drink.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe:
- Unique Flavor Twist: The combination of rich chocolate, caramelized cookie butter, and a hint of bourbon creates a luxurious flavor profile you won’t find in regular hot chocolate.
- Quick & Easy: This recipe comes together in under 10 minutes, making it perfect for last-minute cravings or entertaining guests.
- Versatile: Enjoy it plain, or add the bourbon for a festive adult-friendly version. It’s great for cozy nights in or as a holiday treat.
- Crowd-Pleaser: The rich, sweet flavor appeals to kids and adults alike. It’s the perfect drink to serve at family gatherings, holiday parties, or simply to treat yourself.
Tips for Success:
- Don’t Overheat: Heating the milk gently prevents it from curdling or developing a skin. Stir often for a smooth consistency.
- Extra Decadence: Drizzle caramel sauce over the whipped cream for an extra indulgent topping.
- Pairing Idea: Enjoy this hot chocolate with shortbread cookies or biscotti on the side for the ultimate treat.
Storage & Reheating:
- Storage: Leftover hot chocolate can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat gently over low heat, stirring to bring back the smooth texture.
- Reheating: Avoid microwaving on high. Instead, reheat slowly to preserve the creamy consistency.
This Biscoff hot chocolate is like a hug in a mug—comforting, indulgent, and full of flavor. Whether you’re treating yourself or sharing with loved ones, it’s a guaranteed way to bring warmth and joy to any moment.
