Sloppy Joes

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp neutral oil
  • 1 lb ground turkey beef works too
  • 1/2 cup onion diced
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp all purpose seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp

    Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 tbsp brown sugar honey works too
  • 2 tsp mustard

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add meat and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until lightly browned, about 3-4 minutes. Add your seasonings and combine.
  • Move ground meat to the side of the pan and add onions. Cook for another 2-3 minutes or until onions have softened.
  • Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire, mustard and brown sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring often. Lower the temperature and continue to cook until the meat has cooked through and the sauce has thickened, about 10-15 minutes.

Notes

Notes:

  • Flavor Boost: For even more depth, try adding a splash of apple cider vinegar or hot sauce for a tangy kick.
  • Turkey or Beef? Both work great! Turkey is leaner, but beef offers a richer flavor. Choose what fits your vibe.
  • Make it Yours: Customize the heat by adjusting the cayenne or adding diced jalapeños. You can also throw in some bell peppers for added crunch.
  • Leftovers: This mixture keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days and freezes beautifully. Perfect for meal prep!
  • Reheating Tips: For best results, reheat the sloppy joe mixture in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through, adding a splash of water or broth if needed to loosen the sauce. Alternatively, microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until heated to your liking.
